
Keck Graduate Institute’s Board of Trustees boasts a group of leaders in the world of industry, education and government. These individuals have come together, since the board was established in 1997, to guide KGI down the path of success. Two new board members were elected in 2007-2008, bringing the total to 22 regular members and 10 trustees emeriti. The newest members of the board—Jay Flatley and Billy Tauzin—bring a wealth of knowledge in biotechnology and politics, which will only add to KGI’s foundation as an educational leader in bioscience.
Jay Flatley

A driver in the world of personalized medicine, Jay Flatley has led Illumina Inc. as the president and CEO since 1999. Illumina is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of integrated systems to analyze genetic variation and biological function. Before arriving at Illumina, Flatley helped found and served as president and CEO of Molecular Dynamics, a company that develops, manufactures and markets integrated systems which speed up genetic discovery. He held the position of vice president of engineering and strategic planning for Plexus Computers, executive vice president for Manning Technologies and held manufacturing positions at Spectra Physics’ Autolab division.

Billy Tauzin

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA)

In the world of pharmaceuticals, Billy Tauzin is a leading voice in Washington, DC. In 2005, he was named president and CEO of PhRMA, which represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies. Prior to leading PhRMA, Tauzin represented the people of the 3rd Congressional District of Louisiana in the U.S. House of Representatives for 13 years. During his career as a congressman, he was chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He began his public service career in the Louisiana State Legislature where he served in a variety of posts, including chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee.
