Phelps is chairman of S.N. Phelps & Co., Commonwealth Oil Refining Co., and Clear Springs Land Company. He is former president and chief investment officer of U.S. Life Advisors and U.S. Life Income Fund where he managed a portfolio of $2 billion in fixed income investments.
He graduated from Phillips Exeter, Yale University, and Harvard Business School, and holds a Doctorate of Applied Life Sciences, honoris causa, from Keck Graduate Institute.
