Certificate in Bioscience Management
Keck Graduate Institute's Certificate in Bioscience Management helps PhD students and post-doctoral fellows with backgrounds in science acquire business and management skills in the applied life sciences.
The goal of this certificate program is to offer supplemental education to scientists interested in pursuing careers in the applied life sciences industry, or who are interested in learning about the process for commercial development of new therapies.
Management courses at KGI focus specifically on the unique business environment within the life sciences, combining traditional training in issues such as competitive strategy and marketing with specialized topics such as the role of regulation and medical reimbursement in determining the viability of life science market opportunities.
KGI also offers courses in finance, accounting, and organizational behavior that will help scientists understand how typical bioscience companies are managed. Such skills are often essential in enabling effective team-work between the technical and business employees of life science companies.Participants in KGI's Certificate in Bioscience Management program may also enroll in specialized courses in entrepreneurship. These offerings include courses focused on building and managing entrepreneurial organizations, an applied course in which teams of students develop business plans for emerging life science companies, and courses in business law and intellectual property.
Because of KGI's exclusive focus on the life sciences, these entrepreneurship courses are ideally structured to provide skill-sets to help science entrepreneurs commercialize science.
Program participants also will be able to take advantage of KGI's extensive networking opportunities that allow students to meet industry leaders as well as alumni working in the applied life sciences today.
