Summer Programs at KGI
Summer is the time to seek opportunity to bolster one's academic career. KGI offers several unique summer programs tailored to suit undergraduate, pre-health and post-doc students. Participants get a preview of KGI's advanced degrees (Master of Bioscience, Doctor of Pharmacy, Postbaccalaureate Premedical Certificate, Master of Engineering or Postdoctoral Professional Masters), while deciding a future career in the life sciences industry. These summer programs are a great way to improve qualifications, gain exposure to the biotechnology, medicine, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries and learn a unique set of skills that will optimize a resume.
Upper Level Undergraduate science courses that will be offered in the summer include: Human Anatomy with a Virtual 3D anatomy Lab; Human Physiology with Lab; Microbiology with Lab and Biochemistry. These courses are open to all undergraduate students seeking careers in Healthcare and/or the Sciences. These courses fulfill the pre-requisite requirements for entrance into KGI's School of Pharmacy.

All online course materials for Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology will be available by June 5, 2017.
Students taking Anatomy and Physiology are required to attend Lab on campus. Details are forthcoming.
Students taking Biochemistry or Microbiology may be required to attend sessions on campus and/or via the Internet. Details are forthcoming.
The SURE program for undergraduate research in biotechnology and bioengineering provides undergraduate students the opportunity for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research in the areas of applied molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, computational biology, as well as exposure to related ethics and business topics.

Thanks to the generous grant support from The Kenneth T. and Eileen L. Norris Foundation, each SURE participant will receive a $500 scholarship. The SURE program is not an academic degree program and does not charge participants for their summer research experience at KGI. Therefore, the $500 scholarship is considered taxable income, and each participant may receive an IRS 1099 form. A week-long course offered by The American Society for Cell Biology and Keck Graduate Institute. The course will introduce PhD scientists to the competencies they need to thrive in industry and will expose them to the culture and infrastructure of life sciences companies through MBA-style case-based teaching, professional development workshops, and a team-based project.

Explore MED is a two-week residential program of classroom and experiential learning to help students investigate what it means to be "premed". The program is best geared for undergraduate sophomores and juniors, but it's beneficial for anyone contemplating a career in healthcare. The program also benefits those applying to graduate programs and seek highly personalized advising and support.
