Incoming International Students
Obtain an I-20 or DS-2019
We have designed the New International Student Checklist to provide you with the steps needed to obtain an I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students), apply for your visa, and transition to the US. The Tips for Your Visa Interview handout is a great resource to help you prepare for your visa interview.
If you are currently in the U.S. attending another institution, please provide your current school with our Transfer Instructions. If you will be traveling outside of the US before you start at KGI, please let us know, as we will need to provide you with a temporary I-20. Your school must transfer your record before we can do this, so it is important to get that process started with them as soon as possible. Your transfer must be completed within 15 days from the start of classes.
Come to Claremont
KGI does not have currently have on-campus student housing available. It is important to start looking for housing well in advance of your arrival. The Claremont University Consortium has compiled a Housing Resources page to help you in this search. We have also compiled a list of local homestay services that you may wish to contact.
International Place of the Claremont Colleges also offers airport pickup and temporary host family services. Through the temporary host family program, you can stay with a host family for a few days, during which time you can adjust to the Claremont community and finalize housing processes. To arrange for a temporary host family, please contact International Place of the Claremont Colleges at least 3 weeks in advance of your arrival so that arrangements can be made to accommodate you. I-Place can be reached at (909) 621-8344 or (909) 607-7868 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please also see the Pre-Departure Information handout for more helpful tips on coming to KGI.
Make a Friend
The First Friends program aims to connect current and recent alum of KGI with incoming international students in an attempt to share information, experiences, and to begin reinforcing your networks. You will be receiving your match’s name in email near the start of the Fall semester and are encouraged to contact him/her as soon as possible.
After you obtain your visa and make your flight arrangements, please contact us to book an international student check-in appointment. Email international[at symbol]kgi.edu with 2-3 dates and times you can meet between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. We recommend completing international check in the week before orientation begins.
