Meet the Admissions Team
With more than 13 years of experience in the education and non-profit worlds, Sofia Toro brings a passion for education to her position. Toro came to KGI in September 2008 and oversees the admissions, recruiting, student services, financial aid, and international student processing for KGI's graduate programs. She brings operations expertise as well as experience in professional school admissions, thanks to her work in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Her current responsibilities at KGI encompass all aspects of student engagement and student success. She has been successful at streamlining processes within recruitment, admissions, student affairs and financial aid; helping our students enjoy their experience at KGI. Most notably increasing our efforts to recruit international students from many different countries. Before joining KGI, Toro helped improve the organizational effectiveness of LA Universal Preschool (LAUP), the largest universal preschool effort in the history of the US educational system. While there, she co-designed and implemented a continuous quality improvement system, and she facilitated the California Award for Performance Excellence training for organizational learning, process improvement, problem solving and implementation. Prior to her work at LAUP, Toro spent more than five years in MBA admissions at Pepperdine University. Toro holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Woodbury University and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Shannon has been an active contributor to the admissions office at KGI since 2008. With a background in marketing and communications, she ensures applicants of the School of Applied Life Sciences have the information they need to determine if KGI is the best fit for their higher education needs and career goals. Shannon enjoys visiting college campuses to discuss various career opportunities with science and engineering students and watching the growth they have throughout their program at KGI. She has a B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from Washington State University and earned an MBA from the University of Montana.
Anel Farias is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton. Upon graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies, Anel began her career in Higher Education at Keck Graduate Institute. Anel recently completed a master’s in Higher Education Administration and Policy at the University of California, Riverside. As the Senior Admissions Counselor for the School of Applied Life Sciences, Anel helps prospective students throughout the application process.
Clark Harris is a graduate of University of Colorado at Boulder receiving a double major in History and Ethnic Studies. While at CU - Boulder, he served an active role in on campus leadership as well as in the Greek community. Clark began his career in Higher Education by serving as a Student Ambassador for the university's Admissions Office for three years before moving into his graduate admissions role. As an Admissions Counselor for the School of Applied Life Sciences, Clark is happy to assist prospective students throughout the application process.
Marcia Parker is an experienced higher education professional with an expertise in health science recruitment and admissions. Before joining KGI, she served as assistant director of admissions for Texas Woman's University (TWU), where she led large-scale public speaking and health-focused recruitment events throughout the state of Texas. While at TWU, she also counseled and met with more than 1500 students annually, primarily health science students majoring in disciplines such as pre-pharmacy, nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Prior to her work at Texas Woman's, Ms. Parker served as a graduate recruiter for the University of South Florida (USF) College of Nursing. While at USF, she recruited nationally for clinical doctorate and PhD programs. She also developed and initiated many of the admissions, recruitment, and open house functions used by the College of Nursing today. Ms. Parker earned an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University and a B.S. from the University of Tennessee. She also has completed graduate hours in instructional technology and multimedia at the University of South Florida.
Jason Hartfield serves as a Senior Admissions Counselor for the School of Pharmacy at KGI. When Mr. Hartfield first joined KGI he worked as an Admissions Assistant and then as an Admissions Counselor. Prior to joining KGI, Mr. Hartfield taught English in the Huairou District of Beijing, China. Mr. Hartfield received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin and is currently enrolled in a Master of Education program at the University of Redlands. As a Senior Admissions Counselor for the School of Pharmacy, Mr. Hartfield will help prospective students throughout the application process.
