Focus Track Fridays: Bioprocessing

It was 'standing room only' this past Friday when KGI faculty and staff invited industry professionals to campus in order to showcase the KGI bioprocessing curriculum. This event not only served to receive feedback on how to improve the program to better meet industry needs, but also to create networking opportunities for current students.

Out of breath in business casual, second year MBS Daniel Lev sits down to our informal interview having just rushed from a 7:30am meeting in Orange County. As a part of his Applied Entrepreneurship class, Daniel has the unique opportunity to work with a small group of students to build a business plan with Life Technologies’ entrepreneur-in-residence.

Marc Pollack, the sole student pursuing the Pharmaceutical Discovery and Development career focus track in the MBS class of 2011, shares his experience being in a class of his own.

From the humble beginnings of a Facebook conversation arose the Journal Club, a small organization of then-first year students interested in going above and beyond KGI’s innovative curriculum to further their own personal learning. Devised initially as a small loose organization providing group feedback for writing, editing, and topic selection, the Journal Club rebranded itself during the beginning of the 2010-2011 academic year to become WEPP; Writing and Editing for Professional Publication.

Over 30 prospective students from all over the country made their way to Claremont a few weeks ago for the MBS Fall Visitation Day. Visitation Day is a semiannual event designed to familiarize prospective students with KGI’s offerings in the way of current students, faculty, staff, industry connections, alumni and state of the art facilities.

Second year bioprocessing student, Corey Kuruma, however, can breathe easy having secured a position in the two-year Operations Rotational Development Program with Genentech.
