2011 Outlook for KGI Career Services
With fall semester behind us, Career Services Director Jinny Ki reflects on the many job search and job skills events held on campus. With regards to the workshops and industry-sponsored events, Jinny believes that the quality of speakers has definitely improved. With the increasing interest in professional programs like KGI, it is no wonder that companies are sending higher profile representatives to evaluate the quality of a KGI education. A new event-planning tool has also enabled Jinny to track the improving participation of KGI students in Career Services events.
The end of the year is an infamously busy time for students aspiring to consulting careers. In order to prepare students for what to expect in the interview process as well a life as a consultant, professionals from consulting companies like L.E.K. Consulting, Campbell Alliance, Deloitte, Scientia Advisors, Price Waterhouse and Coopers, and Pricespective each visited campus in order to give presentations, hold workshops, and conduct on-campus interviews. As a result, five second-year students have received job offers with these firms and a handful of others are currently in the final rounds of interviews. First-year students have also had their share of successes with three in the final stages of interviews for summer internships. Jinny comments on how impressed she is with the early efforts of first year students. “ A big chunk of them are already interviewing for positions in operations.”
For the spring semester, students can expect another round of the usual workshops including mock interviews, resume writing, job offer negotiations, and etiquette as well as visits from industry professionals from pharmaceutical and medical device companies for positions ranging from marketing, and clinical and regulatory affairs to project management.
