BioTECHnology - Competition for the iPad: Tablets Take Over
Since the launch of the Apple iPad last April, it seems as though manufacturers have recognized that the tablet could be the next big thing in mobile devices. Apple’s first competitor came in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which runs on the Android operating system and is scheduled to launch in the United States on November 10. Hewlett Packard has even announced a launch of their own HP Slate 500 scheduled for November 17 aimed at businesses and lovers of the Windows operating system.
As the promo video for the HP Slate 500 exhibits, app developers are continually thinking outside of the box in exploring the possible uses for these new mobile devices. Among the showcased applications, you will notice the potential for the use of tablets in health care administration. Although electronic medical record keeping is an attractive solution to organizing and streamlining patient care, it does come at a cost. There is a sacrifice for automation that health care administrators must consider before taking advantage of this auspicious opportunity.
KGI students strive to find a balance between embracing new technology while fully recognizing and acknowledging any bioethical implications. The KGI curriculum aims to promote critical thinking and develop analytical skills required for success in the ever-changing life sciences industry.
