Business of Bioscience/Med Devices Student Spotlight - Nick Kampff
Although the majority of KGI students choose to complete their summer internships at life sciences companies, there are a handful who cross over into more business focused companies. Nick Kampff, for example, spent this past summer as a Marketing Analyst at Financial Tools, a company in the finance industry. Nick spent his internship organizing and executing a marketing campaign that targeted up-start banks and credit unions for Financial Tools' risk management software. In addition, he was also able to do some work as a financial analyst at SafeShot, a medical devices company. There, Nick had the opportunity to apply his finance knowledge in performing a valuation of the company. This range of activity allowed Nick to experiment in different fields, applying what he learned as a KGI first year in a business setting, and gave him some valuable insights regarding his future career path.
Well into his second year, Nick continues his work as a Marketing Analyst part-time with Financial Tools. in addition, he is also an avid member of the Golf Club as well as the Tree Huggers Club, an organization dedicated to outdoor excursions all over California. Pursuing the Business of Bioscience as well as the Medical Devices focus tracks, Nick is a true hybrid who hopes to ultimately work for the philanthropic arm of any large, domestic company in order to negotiate partnerships with nonprofits to provide effective disease diagnostic technologies to underprivileged populations globally.
A firm proponent in the importance of teamwork, Nick offers these words of wisdom that sum up his experiences at KGI thus far:
"Excellent project work does not result from the best collection of talent. It results from a selfless, cohesive group of people working together under a common goal."
