MBS Student News - ISPE Spotlight

One short year was all it took for four KGI students to build a chapter of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE) to the current level of prestige that it enjoys today. The KGI chapter has gained widespread acclaim for their string of successful programming. For instance, MBS 2011 student and ISPE founding member Jessica Lin received an award for Outstanding Leadership for the 2009-2010 Academic Year for the Greater Los Angeles chapter, and David Steinberg of Gilead Sciences is scheduled to commemorate the efforts of ISPE at a plaque presentation in the upcoming weeks.
MBS 2011 students Boris Gites, Li Liang, Jessica Lin, and Joshua Manohar saw an opportunity for KGI to gain global exposure to the industry by creating an ISPE chapter. Surrounding chapters are mainly located at undergraduate institutions, and as a result, KGI has been able to establish itself as a prominent leader in its short existence. ISPE is a professional organization that offers industrial exposure and course certifications for pharmaceutical operations, as well as industry contacts domestically and internationally. Members include pharmaceutical engineers interested in manufacturing, clinical development, regulatory affairs, and technical operations as well as others interested more in the management side of pharmaceutical manufacturing.
With a slew of exciting professional and social events planned for the 2010-2011 school year and the support of the ISPE greater LA area chapter subsidizing the cost of student membership, current and prospective students should strongly consider taking advantage of this great opportunity to work with such a motivated group of young professionals.
