Recent Alumni Events
1/25/16: KGI's first alumni networking event of 2016 took place on January 25 in Westlake Village, CA. The event featured speakers and included about 30 guests who mingled with industry professionals/alumni.
2/4/16: Students enjoyed chatting with Advisory Council members Hutch Humphreys (Samumed) and Omar Gaya (Regeneron) at an alumni panel entitled "How I got where I am today" as part of KGI's annual Advisory Council meeting. During the informal discussion, Gaya and Humphreys praised KGI's ability to teach a broad range of areas of focus which enabled them to speak the language of various persons involved in the biotech industry. Working in a team from day one was essential and gave hands on experience to both of them which helped them throughout their career. "KGI gave me a good foundation to talk to engineers, scientists, and business colleagues" said Humphreys. Gaya praised the curriculum at KGI which enabled him to be proficient and take hands on skills with him into the industry.
2/5/16: Garnet Kim (Gilead) Class of 2015, Esther Chung (Gilead) Class of 2015, Jay Malmo (Ultragenyx) Class of 2015, Tiffani Sandoval (Biosense Webster) Class of 2014, George Tiller (Endologix) 2015, and Frances Chang (Pending) Class of 2015 participated in KGI's annual Clinical and regulatory Affairs Focus Friday Alumni Panel. KGI students were given the opportunity to talk with and learn from recent KGI grads currently working in the biotech field. While there, the alumni discussed how KGI was instrumental in shaping their knowledge of the industry as well as helping them to land their first job. The lauded the instruction in presentation skills, innovative and cross-functional group projects, as well as the tight deadlines of the Team Masters Projects; negotiations skills were also highlighted and valued along with the head start in being able to speak the language of anyone along the process from development to finished product.
Students received resume and industry tips and hands on how to skills with regard to their entrance into the workforce after graduation.
6/9/16: Alumnus from KGI's pioneer class of 2002, Dr. Sudhanshu Patwardhan, along with Professor of Practice Dr. Alan Rothfeld debated the topic of "E-Cigarettes" with students, faculty and staff at KGI. Dr. Patwardhan will travel to Warsaw, Poland in a few weeks to convene with other experts and policy makers on this issue.
6/14/16: KGI President Sheldon M. Schuster and Alumni Engagement Manager Christa Oudshoorn-Hobo met with KGI alumni who work at Regeneron in Tarrytown, NY. Special guests were KGI Trustee Ross Grossman who recently retired from Regeneron and Senior Manager, University Relations Nathalie Griffith. Regeneron has around 20 KGI alumni working there.
