Amgen Bioprocessing Center
ABC was founded at KGI in 2004 by a generous gift of $2M by the Amgen Foundation. The Center's mission was to develop and deliver innovative teaching and training programs in bioprocessing with the focus initially on biopharmaceutical industries in Southern California.
Today, our reputation as a world-class teaching and training center extends across and beyond USA. The Center serves the community and biopharmaceutical industries by offering a full spectrum a of training programs, which taken together bridges the gap between traditional degree courses in life sciences and engineering and skills needed by the bioindustry.
The focus of Center's research is on bioprocessing and scale-up of:
- rDNA-based biopharmaceuticals - e.g. complex proteins and monoclonal antibodies
- Next generation biologics - e.g. gene therapy and stem cell therapeutics
The work of the Center is highly industry focused and guided by a distinguish team of advisory board (ABCAB) members.
Over 90% of the Center's research is collaborative with industry, providing a superb and unmatched platform for our students to interact with and lean from industry leaders.
