Sriram Viswanathan
Sriram Viswanathan is a Vice President of the Intel Architecture Group (IAG) and General Manager of Intel's Incubation and Innovation Group (IIG). This group is chartered with supporting the various Intel platform groups to develop new business concepts on a worldwide basis in the compute continuum using internal incubation, spin-outs/spin-ins and other alternate funding options.
Prior to this, he was the head of Intel's Global Wireless efforts responsible for the overall strategy and implementation of Intel's efforts to establish leadership in communication technologies, such as WiFi and 4G. In this capacity he was the corporate focal point for customers and business partners worldwide. He is also recognized in the industry as the original architect of Intel's efforts in WiFi and 4G/WiMAX technologies.
Earlier, he was one of the senior most executives within Intel Capital and was the Vice President managing Intel's largest investment portfolio in the mobility sectors within Intel Capital, the venture arm of Intel Corporation. In this role he was responsible for investments on a worldwide basis in the areas of mobile content/services, communication infrastructure, and mobile platforms. This portfolio was comprised of over 100 companies and still represents well over 60% of the overall value of Intel Capital. Some of the companies in his portfolio over time included names such as PCCW (acq of HKT), iPass (went public), eInk (acq), PGP (acq), Imagination Technologies (public), CLWR etc. Previously, Viswanathan also managed many of Intel Capital's other sectors, including broadband and content/media.
Prior to Intel Capital, Viswanathan led Intel's strategic marketing activities in the entertainment industry in the U.S. He was one of the architects of the joint collaboration between Intel and Creative Artists Agency, a leading talent agency in Hollywood.
He was the recipient of the prestigious Intel Achievement Award twice, and Intel Divisional Awards on numerous occasions. He is also well recognized in the industry and speaks at industry events regularly on the topics of entrepreneurship, wireless and broadband technologies.
He is active in many industry organizations, including The Indus Entrepreneur (TiE) as a charter member. He is also on the board of Relief International/Schools Online, a non-profit organization involved in driving ICT development and sustainability on a global basis. He also served on the Kofi Annan Committee for UNICT, developing strategies for UN for infrastructure development in emerging countries. More recently, he was part of the White House and State Department Delegation to India during President Obama's visit to India. He has played an advisory role to the State Department and White House on multiple topics in innovation, infrastructure to further joint collaboration between the U.S. and India.
Viswanathan joined Intel in 1993 as a technical marketing engineer supporting Intel's then CEO Andy Grove.
Prior to joining Intel, Viswanathan worked as head of Emerging Technologies of Covansys (acquired by CSC). In this capacity he executed many projects for Chrysler Corporation (Lead Networking Architect), IBM (Lead Architect of IBM's Multimedia efforts for '92 Olympics) and Ford Motor Company (Lead Architect of the Corporate IVR System).
Viswanathan has degrees in physics, computer science and automation from the American College and the Indian Institute of Science, respectively. He received a master's degree from UCLA Anderson School of Business in 1997.
He lives with his wife and son in Hillsborough, California.
