How do I connect my laptop to the network (Students only)
Before connecting a laptop to the network it must have antivirus software and the latest Windows updates installed. AVG antivirus works well if you don't own antivirus software. We also recommend that you consider using personal firewall software for example (Zone Alarm or Tiny Personal Firewall - search for the product name). Spyware is a huge problem now. We recommend that you use anti-spyware freeware packages for example Spybot and SpywareBlaster on your personal PC. Wireless access is available in both buildings. Your wireless card's MAC address must be registered with the IT department before you can connect to the wireless network.How do I access KGI resources while off campus?
Faculty/Staff: Remote Desktop, Outlook Web Access (OWA), VPN and SSH are a few of methods used to connect KGI resources from off campus. Contact the IT Deptartment if you are interested. Faculty and staff can access OWA at https://mail.kgi.edu.What is the URL for KGI e-mail web access (Faculty/Staff only)?
Outlook Web Access (OWA): Using either Internet Explorer or Firefox for web address to access your KGI e-mail go to https://mail.kgi.edu. The "s" in https means the connection is secured through encryption and is verified by a lock icon. There are a couple of optional choices when logging in. If you use Internet Explorer the first choice is Premium or Basic. The default choice is Premium but you can choose Basic if you are using a slow internet connection such as a dial-up modem. If you use Firefox or Safari the Premium/Basic choice will not be displayed. The second choice is Public or Private computer. If you are using your own computer you can select private. If you are using a computer in a comuter lab, library or friend's home then we suggest selecting public to protect your privacy. Enter your KGI username and password and click Logon. It is not necessary to include the KGI domain name, i.e. kgi\jsmith, jsmith@kgi or jsmith@kgi.edu. OWA will automatically log you off after a set period of inactivity. - Enter your username and password.
- The name of the server is mail.kgi.edu
