Students with a disability may experience some unique challenges while pursuing a degree or certificate. The Office of Student Services is dedicated to helping all graduate students at Keck Graduate Institute with the resources they need to achieve academic and personal success.
Keck Graduate Institute complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended, and other applicable state and federal law prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities. View the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Dept. of Education's page, which provides access to the Federal law and regulations as well as some FAQ's. You may also contact KGI's Disability Coordinator, who can provide you information on federal, state, local, and campus regulations that you should know. KGI is committed to providing appropriate services and reasonable accommodations for students who need them. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to speak to the College's specialist in disability accommodations regarding potential accommodations and the required paperwork.
How to Register for Accommodations
Self-identification is voluntary. All students with a disability that are seeking accommodations must schedule an appointment and be registered with the Associate Director of Student Services/Disability Coordinator and provide documentation of the disability, if accommodations are desired. Please note that information will be kept strictly confidential.
All students seeking accommodations must provide documentation of their disability.
All documentation should:
- Be current
- State clearly the diagnosed disability and educational or medical documentation
- Describe the functional limitations resulting from the disability
- For learning disabilities, provide all psychological and education testing instructions used in the evaluation report and relevant subtest scores used to document the stated disability
All academic accommodations for students with disabilities are handled through the Office of Student Services. Accommodations can be given for all categories of disabilities. It is important to make an appointment as soon as possible to determine reasonable accommodations. Documentation is required and may be requested for specific accommodations. It is the students' responsibility to meet with the Disability Coordinator each semester in order to receive approved accommodations for the subsequent semester.
Examples of Accommodations include:
- Extended Time on exams
- Quiet location for testing
- Individual Room
- Use of computer to type essay exams
- Assistive technology for exams or course work
- Use of a Notetaker
