The Center for Rare Disease Therapies is led by its director, M. Ian Phillips, PhD, DSc, FAHA, and Norris Professor of Applied Life Sciences. Two boards support the center's internal resources and consist of respected professionals from diverse industries.
Director Ian Phillips
Ian Phillips is both an experienced administrator and an expert in the biology of stem cells and gene regulatory networks.
Professor Phillips came to KGI in 2006 after serving as the vice president for research at the University of South Florida for four years. He previously was the chair of the Department of Physiology at the University of Florida's College of Medicine for more than 20 years.
A fellow of the American Heart Association and winner of both the Christopher Columbus Award in Science and Technology and McGill University's Lucian Award for research in circulatory disease, Professor Phillips has written 11 books and more than 300 papers and reviews. He holds Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
