Welcome to our hive! “Beaker Bee” is the new KGI mascot.

In conjunction with Keck Graduate Institute (KGI)’s 25th anniversary year, KGI leadership determined that it was the right time to introduce a mascot. On July 11, 2022, KGI announced Beaker Bee as the new mascot! 

Beaker is:

• A unifying symbol for KGI
• Presents a positive image that builds enthusiasm and campus spirit
• Is broadly relevant across the KGI community, the student body, and generations of alumni
• Is representative of KGI’s experience, history, or geography, either generally or specifically
• Is represented in a visually pleasing way that connects to KGI’s values

Mascot Selection Timeline

• March 1, 2022: Mascot submissions opened
• March 31, 2022: Mascot submissions closed
• April 6, 2022: President’s Cabinet reviewed submissions
• April 11-13, 2022: Focus groups made up of students, faculty, staff, and alumni selected and voted on the top choices
• April 20, 2022: President’s Cabinet selected the mascot after feedback from the focus groups 
• July 11, 2022: Mascot selection was announced
