Alex Bastian of GfK Bridgehead to Keynote KGI Annual Seminar for Business Majors
On Friday, October 11, the School of Applied Life Sciences at KGI will host its annual seminar for Master of Bioscience (MBS) students majoring in the business of bioscience. The daylong event includes morning career workshops for students seeking business careers in the life sciences. Topics will include business development, finance, project management and R&D beyond the bench. The theme of the afternoon sessions, which are open to the public, is "Challenges of Reimbursement for New Medical Products."
Alex Bastian, who leads the San Francisco office of Gaff Bridgehead, will keynote the event. While with Gaff Bridgehead, Bastian has led major engagements in market access in various roles, from consultant to principal consultant. The majority of his work focuses on value drivers for pipeline assets, as well as alternative funding sources from traditional and non-traditional payers. These experiences have made Bastian an expert concerning methodologies to drive commercial value of R&D activities (assessing assets and challenges in clinical development).
Prior to joining Gaff Bridgehead, Bastian worked in Switzerland with Amgen Inc. in International Commercial Operations executing strategic projects. He first began his career in healthcare with Pfizer Inc. He worked with specialists and hospitals to drive product uptake, gaining a deep understanding of marketplace dynamics and commercial opportunities. Working with some of the world's largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies has provided Bastian with real-world strategic and operational experience across many therapeutic categories, including oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, allergy & immunology, urology, paediatrics, pulmonary, dermatology, geriatrics, psychiatry and primary care. Bastian completed his full-time MBA at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, and holds a bachelor's degree with honours from the University of Minnesota.
Morning career workshops are for KGI students only, while the general public and all members of the KGI community are welcome to attend the afternoon sessions as well as the reception following the sessions.
