ISBSS Seminar Series: Hans Smith, J.D.
Hans Smith is a KGI alum and a registered patent attorney. He focuses on a variety of intellectual-property law fields including litigation, licensing, patent prosecution, and other transactional work. Hans counsels clients in a number of technology fields including the life sciences, industrial mechanical equipment, nanotechnology sensing devices, and the wireless industry. Hans works with University technology transfer offices and their inventors to develop patent portfolios and counsel's early-stage clients and venture capital firms on product development. Prior to law school and while at KGI, Hans interned in the life-sciences industry: with a lobbying firm in Washington, DC where he co-authored a paper arguing against an increased regulatory framework governing stem-cell research and development, and with a consulting firm in Shanghai, China where he evaluated therapeutic drug candidates and discovery platforms in Chinese research institutions.
