Professional Science Master's (PSM) Director
The Professional Science Master's (PSM) National Director is responsible for overall management and administration of priority initiatives and endeavors of the National Professional Science Master's Association (NPMSA) and the PSM National Office. Current NPSMA priorities include management of member stewardship and growth, communications and marketing, resource development, and overall support for the work of the NPSMA Board of Directors. For the PSM National Office, current assignments include management of the affiliation process for new PSM programs and re-affiliation of existing PSM-affiliated programs, liaison to the PSM National Steering Committee, and management of day-to-day operations of the Office. The PSM National Director is a full-time position, located in the PSM National Office at Keck Graduate Institute. The PSM National Director will lead and support endeavors to take PSM programs to new levels of success.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution,
Understanding of accreditations, assessment, report writing, and facility in survey administration,
Experience in communications, marketing, and resource development, with demonstrated ability to achieve results,
Experience working in an academic/higher education environment, at least 3 years,
Experience working in or with businesses, government agencies, or employers in other sectors.
Graduate degree in a related field (PSM, business, management, communications, or other related field), from an accredited institution,
Knowledge and experience with PSM program development, partnerships, achievements, and trends, at the state, regional, or national levels.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Attend NPSMA Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Committee, and other meetings and events, to receive overall direction and specific targets, offer guidance and technical expertise, and present reports on strategic directions and current endeavors.
Manage development, implementation, and evaluation of an overarching integrated marketing/communications plan for NPSMA, with targeted goals and tactics to steward and grow membership, to grow alliances and partnerships, and increase external funding and resources.
Review NPSMA's membership program to recommend and manage implementation of a new model or approaches to steward and grow an active and engaged membership (e.g., increase and diversity of memberships, Conference/Workshop registrations, Committee participation, etc.).
Collaborate with the NPSMA Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Committees; key partners (i.e., PSM National Office, PSM National Steering Committee, etc.), and other stakeholders (e.g., PSM Systems Network, Council of Graduate Schools, etc.), as appropriate, to grow and sustain strategic alliances and partnerships.
Design and administer an integrated approach to increase external funding and resources through grants, sponsorships, and gifts.
Collaborate with NPSMA consultants (e.g., Professional and Administrative Services Consultant, Government Relations Consultant, etc.), key partners (i.e., PSM National Office, PSM National Steering Committee, etc.), and other stakeholders (e.g., PSM Systems Network, Council of Graduate Schools, etc.), as appropriate, on management of all priority initiatives and endeavors to assure consistency, coordination, and excellence in design, development, and delivery of specific projects.
Administer at least two national surveys annually. Includes a survey of recent graduates, survey of program directors, and new surveys TBD. Analyze the results and develop reports to be communicated nationally through a press release and report distribution.
Manage the process of PSM affiliation of new programs seeking to become affiliated with rigorous documentation of all submissions and communications.
Manage the re-affiliation process of existing PSM programs on a 5-year cycle.
Serve as webmaster for www.sciencemasters.com with assistance marketing/media relations staff at KGI.
Manage the budget of the office: write annual reports and assist in preparation of proposals for funding.
Oversee the distribution of rebates provide by Sloan Foundation funding for new institutional memberships in the NPSMA and for new PSM affiliation fees.
Review and coordinate news announcements of our partner organization, NPSMA including meetings, workshops, and other member-benefits are also expected.
Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned by the KGI PSM Faculty Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
Must be able to interact effectively with senior administration, faculty, staff and students both at KGI and at other academic institutions; and with the President, Board of Directors, staff/consultants, members, and partners of NPSMA.
Must manage longitudinal studies through design, administration, analysis and reporting.
Requires tact, diplomacy, individual initiative and teamwork.
Must manage multiple projects and committees simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Requires good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Effective, clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships.
Ability to think creatively and innovatively, and yield results aligned with articulated priorities or goals
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Strong, demonstrated ability to work with budgets and account managements.
Able to recognize patterns, anticipate problems, and recommend solutions.
Ability and dexterity to effectively use a computer keyboard for prolonged periods of time. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Able to use technology easily and effectively to enhance productivity and to assess progress toward goals.
Able to use new data systems and new media technologies quickly.
Must possess excellent verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, and staff from universities and colleges worldwide, as well as with business, government, non-profit, and higher education leaders.
Must possess a strong work ethic and personal integrity.
Able and willing to work weekend and evening hours, as needed.
