Kenneth James Livak

Consultant

KJ LivakCurrently a full-time consultant, Dr. Livak formerly worked as a Scientist at Applied Biosystems. Dr. Livak joined Applied Biosystems in 1994 as a Senior Staff Scientist and later became Principal Scientist. He has focused on improving PCR analysis using fluorescence probes, and has published numerous articles on real-time quantitative PCR assays. He has been Vice President of Science since 2001 and has recently been named as a Distinguished Scientific Fellow. Prior to his tenure at Applied Biosystems, he was a Senior Research Scientist and later Principal Research Scientist at The Du Pont Merck Pharmaceutical Co. Notably, he was part of the team that first published the complete nucleotide sequence of the AIDS virus. Dr. Livak graduated from Harvey Mudd College with a BS in chemistry, and received his PhD in biochemistry from Harvard University. He was a Post-doctoral Fellow at University of California at San Diego.
