CLAREMONT, Calif., July 17, 2007 - Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) today announced that it received a $375,000 grant from the Fletcher Jones Foundation to establish the Fletcher Jones Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund.
This scholarship provides a unique opportunity for KGI students interested in exploring careers with governmental or non-profit organizations such as the Food & Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization and City of Hope, among others. This is the first KGI scholarship program where recipients may also be eligible to receive supplemental support for summer internships.
“We are delighted and honored to receive such a significant grant from the Fletcher Jones Foundation,” said Sheldon Schuster, Ph.D., KGI’s president. “This generous gift demonstrates the continuing confidence that institutions like Fletcher Jones have in KGI and in the job we are doing to educate tomorrow’s leaders in the applied life sciences.
The Fletcher Jones endowment will total $625,000 following a match from Sidney J. Weinberg Jr., KGI co-founder and emeritus chair, who provided a challenge grant of $2.5 million to match up to 10 gifts of $250,000 or more for endowed student scholarships.
