Director of Career Services

The Director of Career Services is responsible for implementing programs for comprehensive career development and outreach services including industry internships for graduate students preparing for leadership positions in the biosciences industries. The Director will provide strategic direction and leadership by engaging in on-going planning, assessment and evaluation to ensure continual improvement and provision of innovative and effective programs and services that meet the changing needs of graduate students, alumni and employers in this industry.

Essential Functions

  • Identify, develop, and coordinate internship opportunities in the biosciences industry, government and academia
  • Identify, develop and coordinate employment opportunities in the bioscience industry, government and academia
  • Cultivate relationships and links with a broad spectrum of bioscience companies, government and academia
  • Maintain and oversee a comprehensive career services resource center
  • Develop and oversee career education programs, including workshops, presentations, and seminars
  • Develop and oversee professional skills development programs, including workshops, presentations, and seminars
  • Coordinate on-campus recruiting and interviewing
  • Provide career counseling and referrals to assist students, alumni and prospective students with all aspects of the career development process including clarifying goals, decision making and strategic networking within the biosciences industry
  • Produce quarterly Career Services reports for the Board of Trustees, Advisory Council, Faculty and Administration
  • Participate in other Student Services activities such as orientation, student activities, personal counseling, Commencement, admissions events and non-academic policies and procedures
  • Represent KGI at regular meetings of The Claremont Colleges Career Services Consortium
  • Create job postings database and listings for alumni, up-date continuously, provide ongoing counseling and information to alumni with regard to career opportunities

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Study or work experience in the sciences or engineering is helpful. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of success in college student services (preferably in graduate/professional school career services), human resources or related field.

Other important qualities include: Creativity, and a willingness to try new ways of achieving objectives; the ability to connect empathetically, culturally and technologically with people of diverse backgrounds and ages; strong organizational and computer skills; good humor, flexibility, and self-motivation; a hands-on, collaborative work style; and superior oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.

Starting Salary

Competitive and commensurate with experience.
