Consultant - Growing Life Sciences Consulting Firm  (9/27/08)

Our client - an international strategy consulting firm focused on Life Sciences - is led by a team of industry experts and insiders who are at the forefront of thought leadership in these sectors. They offer clients an understanding of science, knowledge of the markets where their clients compete, and a team with real world experience and skill. Because of this they have successfully helped leading companies with strategies for growth - including product and technology assessments, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational change.

This is a ground floor opportunity to join a high-energy team and a high-growth company focused on exceeding client expectations in order to grow their own business. In effect, besides driving growth for the firm, consultants also assist the client with growth strategies by offering a unique approach to consulting, and delivering on their client commitments. Rather than just analyzing client data and information, they conduct primary research and fundamental market analysis - and then develop and prioritize specific growth strategies - obtaining buy-in from the client at all levels along the way.

What does this mean to the client? They are offered unbiased third party information - real and substantiated market data - as a base to develop strategies and to make decisions on how best to grow the business. In addition, they are offered perspective and access to a broader network of technology and current thinking.

What does this mean for the consultant? Besides the ability to focus on Life Sciences consulting, working with all sizes of clients - from start-up Venture Capital backed companies through international industry leaders, Consultants at this firm work on growth strategies vs. cost cutting and process efforts. In addition, because of the type of consulting offered, there is a reduced (read negligible) need for travel, and consultants at this firm are looked upon as real experts because of the new information they bring to the table.

Therefore, besides being an individual who is capable of handling multiple tasks and who can quickly grasp complicated situations, we expect the candidate selected will have:

  • A Scientific degree, with an advanced degree preferred - MSc, MBA, or potentially a PhD - with a history of achievement while in school and at work
  • Five to eight years of Life Sciences or Healthcare Industry experience obtained through working in a company, in Consulting, or Research (or in combination). However some strategic consulting experience is required.
  • A high degree of competence, with well refined analytical, strategic and conceptual skills, and a demonstrated ability to solve complex and multifaceted problems
  • Sound interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and lead small teams to the successful completion of assignments
  • Enthusiasm for the challenges presented, and a "can do" attitude
  • Self-motivation, and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team, on whatever task is required to complete the assignment
  • The business acumen, presence and professionalism to interact with Senior Executives
  • Computer literacy to include a command of Excel, PowerPoint and others

An outstanding compensation and benefits plan is offered to the selected candidate, including a base salary of $125,000 and a bonus of 15% - 20%.
