Could you tell us a little bit about your educational background?

I have my BS in Biology with my minor in Psychology and an emphasis in Native American Studies.

What first got you interested in the healthcare field as a career choice? There are a lot of career options in the field -nursing, physician assistant, etc., what made you decide that genetic counseling was the right practice area/career choice for you?

Since I was young I have wanted to help people. With my love of science, specifically in genetics, this field allows me to continue to enjoy the science field and help patients and their family’s.

What type of obstacles have you had to overcome on the road to getting your education and in particular in pursuing your Genetic Counseling degree?

At first I did not know where I belonged in the science field, and questioned my ability to pursue a higher degree of education. I am the first in my immediate family to go to college and now the first to pursue my masters. with that comes a degree of uncertainty, but I am lucky to have the support of my wonderful family and friends.

Once you decided to pursue a Genetic Counseling degree, how did you know that KGI was the right school for you?

I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by different programs across the country. Upon meeting the Genetic Counselors and staff involved with creating such a forward thinking program. I knew KGI would be the best place for me to learn to become a genetic counselor and best serve my community.

What are you most looking forward to about beginning your Genetic Counseling studies at KGI?
