Tell us about an experience you’ve had outside of class (an internship, research project, publication, etc.).
My greatest gain from shadowing physicians was two great mentors. This was an essential experience that affirmed my decision to pursue a medical career and also left me with the fondest memories. I saw my personal hopes of what I would become in these two individuals and promised myself that I would work mindfully each day to become even half as kind and hardworking as they are. I was encouraged by their friendly, approachable rapport with their patients, patients' families, and the nurses during rounds. I walked away from these encounters with a sense of responsibility to facilitate a future in which kind and effective communication between healthcare providers and patients take place every day.
What's one thing at KGI that no student should miss or what advice do you have for incoming students?
With all the responsibilities and work you'll encounter at KGI (and beyond), it may become easy to lose grip of your personal values. In all that you do, have the courage to speak up for what you believe is right and to support your friends along the way. In the long run, I feel that you'll never regret acting out of integrity, even if you are afraid of the outcome or what people will think of you. And know that I'll always have your back if you ever want to talk!
Where is your favorite spot at KGI or in Claremont and why?
Claremont Village is nice because it's super close to KGI and has a ton of great places like the restaurants, movie theatre, and shops. Go! :)
You're Invited to Join KGI for our In-Person Visit Day! October 19 | 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. PST. REGISTER TODAY.
