What first got you interested in your field of choice?

Growing up, I always knew that my career would be in the science industry. I pursued a B.S. in Biology with the intention of working in a hospital or laboratory setting. However, this quickly changed when I joined KGI’s Careers Beyond the Bench (CBB) summer program. I found myself interested in the biopharmaceutical industry, and was intrigued by the available careers in business operations and management. Through CBB, I learned that I have an opportunity to leverage my science education in a business setting.

What type of obstacles have you had to overcome on the road to getting your education?

As a first-generation college student, I often had difficulty navigating resources and finding people to relate to, especially in undergrad. I always felt like I had to go through “extra trouble” compared to other students. However, this allowed me to be more proactive and advocate for my education by finding the appropriate help. With this knowledge, I am eager to give guidance to other first-generation students pursuing higher education.

How did you know that KGI was the right school for you?

There is a unique sense of community that KGI encompasses, and it is evident in the support that the staff and students provide. Coming from a large university, I felt out of touch with my professors and those outside of my major. However, at KGI, my success and needs as a student are prioritized. I also enjoy that I can connect with and participate in interdisciplinary projects with peers in other programs.

Why did you want to become an Admissions Ambassador?

I wanted to become an extension of KGI through this program and to have a platform to positively influence prospective students. During my decision process, speaking to current students provided more clarity about the school and the outstanding opportunities offered here. I also look forward to integrating more into the KGI community and find that this is the best way to start!

What is one fun and interesting fact about you?

I love trying out new restaurants and coffee shops. My current goal by the end of 2022 is to become a Yelp Elite!
