Dear KGI Community,
Since the pandemic’s beginning, we have monitored guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Los Angeles Department of Public Health to ensure that our protocols would keep our community safe. Our campus community has remained healthy because of your efforts and vigilance in following KGI’s protocols.
Thank you for your efforts and compliance with our on-campus procedures.
Now, new guidance from the CDC recommends that “everyone ages 18 and older should get a booster shot” as an essential additional layer of protection against the Omicron variant.
In light of this guidance, KGI has updated its COVID-19 Vaccination Policy to require all eligible students, staff, and faculty who are eligible (six months past completing their initial Moderna or Pfizer vaccination; two months past the Johnson & Johnson vaccination) must receive and submit proof of a COVID-19 booster shot Monday, January 17, 2022.
As of January 17, 2022, persons who are not yet eligible for a booster shot must receive and submit proof of a booster shot within one week of becoming eligible.
Persons who were vaccinated outside of the United States and received a WHO-authorized COVID-19 vaccine that was not approved or authorized by the FDA will also be required to obtain a booster shot no later than recommended per applicable CDC guidance.
Individuals who have already received an approved exemption from COVID-19 vaccination will continue to be exempt from this requirement. Individuals vaccinated with an FDA-approved or FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine outside the United States should follow CDC guidance for booster doses.
Once you have obtained your booster shot, please upload proof of verification here: Be sure to save the file with your last name, first name, and indicate booster.
Proof of Booster Vaccination
For those requesting a medical, religious, or philosophical exemption, please contact Human Resources at hr@kgi.edu. Those with an approved exemption will be required to wear an approved face covering and be tested twice weekly by Student Health Services.
The COVID-19 booster is available free of charge to all KGI benefits-eligible faculty and staff through your medical provider.
In addition, CDC guidance allows for mixing and matching among the three FDA-approved vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson) if you choose to do so. Appointments can be made via the state’s MyTurn.CA.gov. Additionally, many pharmacies and clinics may be accepting appointments through their reservation systems.
COVID-19 Testing:
Please consider getting tested for COVID-19 before and after an event to reduce the risk & spread. If you test positive or have contacted someone with COVID, call a public health specialist for confidential contract tracing and information on quarantine or isolation.
While we do not require tests to return to campus, we would encourage everyone to acquire and receive a negative test result to continue protecting our community upon their return from the break.
At-Home Test Kits:
LA County and Orange County residents can now request free COVID-19 self-testing kits. The test kits are helpful if you have COVID-like symptoms or think you had an exposure. There are additional country-specific eligibility requirements to request the kits. Visit the LA County Public Health website and the OC Public Health website for further info and instructions.

Thank you all for being so committed to helping us maintain a safe campus community. We hope you enjoy the holiday break.
Be well,
KGI COVID-19 Task Force
