Dear KGI Faculty, Staff, and Students:
COVID-19 hospitalizations in LA County have, for the first time in three months, dropped below 2,000. The testing positivity rate is near 5%, as compared to over 20% at the end of December. All in all, there has been an 85% reduction in new cases, hospitalization, and death. Graphs and data that illustrate these dramatic changes can be viewed here at the LACDPH COVID-19 Data page.
With these encouraging numbers, some of the restrictions on businesses as well as higher education are being relaxed. There are not yet any guidelines for Summer or Fall, but KGI is mapping paths through the most likely scenarios and the COVID-19 Task Force will be providing that information to the KGI community in the upcoming weeks.
Vaccinations
The State of California classifies education workers, including all faculty and staff at institutions of higher education, as part of Phase 1B of the vaccination rollout. Los Angeles County will move into Phase 1B on March 1, and as of March 15, healthcare providers may use their clinical judgement to vaccinate individuals age 16-64 who are deemed to be at the very highest risk for morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 as a direct result of one or more of the severe health conditions included in this provider bulletin.
There are a number of web sites that can assist in finding a vaccine provider. Here are some helpful links for finding a vaccine:
