Dear KGI Community,

If you were unaware, LA County officially transitioned to the CDC ‘High’ community transmission level today. CDC updates this designation every Thursday. You can follow LA County’s numbers at either the CDC website (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#datatracker-home) or the LA County website (http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/data/post-surge-dashboard.htm). The numbers on LA County’s website update several times during the week (in case you want to trend the numbers during the week), but the CDC designation only happens every Thursday.

If LA County stays in this ‘High’ designation for the following two Thursdays (and all indicators indicate this is very likely), then an indoor mask mandate would go into effect. The indoor mask mandate would stay in place until LA County drops out of the ‘High’ designation and then stays out of ‘High’ for the next two Thursdays. Thus, we would anticipate LA County announcing this mandate on July 28, with an effective date of July 29.

It is likely that we will likely start the school year under a mask mandate, the duration of which will remain unknown and be determined by LA County’s Public Health Department. Masks for employees can be picked up in the Human Resources hallway as necessary, and students can access masks at the Student Affairs front desk.

Once we receive notice of a mandate, we will inform you promptly and send out a reminder of our masking policy. If you have any questions, please reach out.

Be well,

KGI COVID-19 Task Force
