This course provides an introduction to global health policy, focusing particular attention on examining different public policy perspectives oriented towards creating drugs for neglected diseases. We will explore how the creation of global value chains has created opportunities to develop new and perhaps more effective policies to lessen the long-standing global health problems. We will also examine the role of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies within global health policy initiatives, paying particular attention to market oriented policies and public-private partnerships. Finally, we will examine the role of social entrepreneurs in creating innovative solutions for global health problems.(ALS 454)
