Digitization has the potential to reduce cost, enhance patient outcomes, and accelerate the move towards value-based models, helping to disrupt the high-cost environment in healthcare over the long run. This course will help students evaluate the broad changes impacting the business of healthcare and develop innovative solutions to the challenges associated with those changes. In particular, the course includes a service-learning project sourced from a cross-sector collaboration with a nonprofit health system and an innovation incubator. Students are expected to design and present a project on the business model canvas to stakeholders employed in a nonprofit health system. The business model canvas must consider the key activities and resources necessary to digitize and reimagine a health product or service that considers clinical benefit, economic impact, and health equity. Given the changing dynamics in the health sector, the course should be of interest to students aspiring to become healthcare managers in nonprofit health systems and other business roles within the broader health sector.(ALS 475)
