This course contains two components: an introduction to drug information and biostatistics 1 and IPE Problem Based Learning (PBL). Introduction to drug information begins by developing student proficiency in library skills for retrieval, analysis and application of primary, secondary and tertiary literature. Students will be introduced to general drug information topics including: the approach to answering drug information questions, adverse drug event reporting, medication use evaluation and evidence based medicine. Some basics of statistics will be reviewed.
PBL will allow students to develop self-directed, lifelong learning. These collaborative exercises with the University of California Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine, Riverside Community College (RCC) School of Nursing and Claremont Graduate University (CGU) Public Health students will help students develop verbal and writing skills to allow effective communications with health professionals. Students will learn to work as a group to solve problems in an inter-professional manner while discussing specific patient cases.
