This course, which focuses on self-care, is supported by interprofessional education (IPE) and an on-campus clinical skills lab. The collaborative exercise in conjunction with the University of California at Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine will foster development of effective collaboration skills, as well as development of verbal and writing skills that will allow for effective communication between colleagues, staff, and patients. The student will learn to perform various physical assessment skills. Students will continue learning how to advise patients on the use of point of care devices, over-the-counter products, and advanced characteristics of the top 300 drugs through self-study. Student communication, motivational interviewing techniques, patient counseling skills will also be assessed using objective structured clinical exam (OSCE) format.
