Investment in digital health has grown over 600% in the past decade, creating a demand for talent that is fluent in both life science and computer science. This course teaches students the fundamental principles of digital design, while highlighting how these principles being applied in the healthcare industry to better serve patients. After completing this course, students will be empowered to build both corporate and career strategies around embracing Health IT. In this course, we will survey how digital tools and interfaces are impacting the healthcare landscape. Students will learn how patients, providers, payers, and producers have adopted digital health and where opportunities for future adoption exist. Students will also learn about user experience (UX) through case studies in which their critique existing mechanical interfaces. Finally, students will learn the basics of mockup development and agile methodology, enabling them to create their own digital health tools. The final deliverable for this course will be a team project to create a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) webpage accompanied by a pitch detailing the innovation, challenges, market opportunity, and proposed company structure.
