Microbiomics and Pathogen Genomics

This course will focus on sequencing strategies for identifying prokaryotic organisms in clinical and environmental samples. The Human Microbiome Project will serve as a roadmap for understanding the purpose of metagenomics and microbiome analysis in healthcare. Students will also learn about emerging pathogen sequencing, gene flow, and the role of sequencing in clinical diagnostics and in responding to disease outbreaks. Last, the course will discuss the strategies and challenges for sequencing viral genomes.
