The General Systems Elective APPE is one of seven APPEs in the fourth professional year. The primary goal of this Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) is an provides distinctive options for students to participate in areas such as compounding, nuclear pharmacy, academia, research, consulting, industry and other environments; patient care is not the primary focus. Specialty areas will vary according to preceptor and site availability. Students will apply knowledge, skills, and abilities developed throughout the curriculum to course and site-specific objectives and will demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills in fulfillment of their responsibilities beyond pharmacy, this course will take a holistic approach to teaching the management of older populations. Topics, taught through the lens of a pharmacist providing continuity of care, will include dental, social, cultural, economic, abuse, caregiver support, mental health, prevention, and benefits.
