This course provides an introduction to oncology research in the laboratory setting. Students will learn basic laboratory techniques in oncology research including cell culture techniques, chemotherapy dosing of cancer cells, and cell viability assays. The course will consist of two components 1) weekly meetings with the instructor to review experiment design, discuss cancer research literature, and to learn lab techniques, and 2) independent lab research where students will maintain cancer cells and perform experiments on these cells. Students will also be given original research papers to review for discussion with the instructor during weekly meetings.
