This course will survey a range of biotechnologies and their evolution into the most current, novel, and cutting-edge applications. The course will emphasize technology mechanisms, with the goal of applying the material to modern medicine and clinical trials through analysis of next-generation immune- and gene- therapies, drug delivery, vaccines, anti-sense, and CRISPR in the COVID era. In addition, classical techniques will be covered (including western immunoblot, HPLC, and transformations) in the context of their use supporting the technologies driving contemporary science. Finally, methodologies for analyzing, interpreting, and communicating data will be leveraged to develop key skills for pre-allied health career students (including MCAT preparation), as well as those interested in both industrial and laboratory biotech research.
