This year-long course focuses on applying the material taught during Capstone I and Capstone II. The background research you conduct about your community during the first semester of this course will be seminal to developing and conducting your own original project during the second semester. The culmination of your work will demonstrate what you have gained from your community engagement experience. You will simultaneously conduct your research in the field and write your final paper throughout the year.
During this semester, you will develop the foundations of your community project with an emphasis on field research to describe the community you have chosen, identifying an important problem, and developing your plan for an intervention (which also will involve a review of the literature on similar interventions that have been conducted in the past). As part of this process, you will become comfortable with your selected community and build trust with your population.
