This course provides an overview of infectious pathogens and the human diseases they cause. It will enable students to define microbial pathogenesis and specific mechanisms by which selected pathogens cause diseases. This course enables students to use their knowledge of medical microbiology basics to examine disease-specific applications and assess factors that drive the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases. Students will also evaluate the One Health approach that recognizes the interdependency of the health of people, animals, and the environment and its role in improving preparations for and responses to disease outbreaks.
