Please join us for our Research Seminar Series Speaker, Dr. William Stanford, Chief Medical Officer at the Beverly Hills Institute for Precision Medicine, on:
Precision medicine is an emerging healthcare approach leveraging multiple types of data, including genomics, epigenetics, proteomics, radiomics, uber-detailed medical histories, and wearable technology, to craft a care plan. Personalized, precision medicine individualizes patient care, leveraging the science of the mid-21st century to optimize health and longevity. Implementation of precision medicine is challenging due to the need for specialized expertise and technology, cost and availability of testing, lack of insurance reimbursement, and inadequate data integration into clinical workflows. To implement precision medicine in primary care practices, there are significant obstacles to overcome, namely science illiteracy in cell and molecular biology. In addition, medical information platforms are woefully lacking in integration and clinical decision-making tools. Governmental agencies are quite progressive in precision medicine, though insurance carriers are a true impedance to progress. The implementation of multi-omic precision medicine will require thorough education and training of physicians, support of specialized physicians, advanced infrastructure, and digital technology enabling clinical integration, monitoring, and reporting. The clear benefits of multi-omic, personalized precision medicine foreshadow this approach to be the standard of care within 5-10 years in the U.S. and worldwide.
