Please join us for our Research Seminar Speaker Series with Larry Anderson, Analytical Development, Mass Spectrometry and Characterization, Group Leader – Catalent Biologics
The increasing popularity and necessity of biologics as research tools and pharmaceuticals has demanded an industrial evolution in these drug types. Several soon-to-market innovators (monoclonal antibodies and fusion proteins) for the treatment of COVID-19 related symptoms rely on complex assays for material release into clinics and hospitals, and the associated data will be discussed for impact into manufacturing processes and client efficacy. Traditional methods geared towards “small molecule” moieties have proven inadequate for the characterization of biologics in assessing their quality, efficacy, and safety. Through the layering of our targeted analytical platforms evaluation of these critical quality attributes is made possible. Characteristics of the biologics produced are assessed and defined by a variety of mass spectrometry techniques, specifically intact mass measurements, profiling of charge variants, sequence verification and post-transnational modification monitoring, glycosylation profile assessments, and structural elucidation. Our data help ensure consistent patient results from trial to bedside in these COVID-19 products and provide regulatory bodies with confidence that therapeutic biologics are uniformly safe for clinical application and approval.
