Rockfish opener for California! Rockfishing is great for those who are new to fishing because it will give them the boat experience at an affordable price and be able to catch fish that makes great table fare.

Base price per member is $36.68/person if you don’t need to rent any gear or need a fishing license. Tickets will be purchased on Monday, February 24, 2020, however depending on how many people sign up, with the club budget, there may be a discount applied to the total price for each person attending.

We will be collecting payment during lunch on Monday, February 24 from 12-1 p.m. IN THE KGI CAFE!!!

A California fishing license is required, there are two options if you do not have one:
  1. Buy a year license which is around 56$
  2. Buy a one day license which is 17$.

Please indicate what type of license you would like to purchase on the google spreadsheet.

In terms of gear, Fishing Club’s president has some extra gear for those who would not like to rent, if you have your own gear please feel free to bring them. Rentals are about 15$ additional.

Transportation
I will be driving from the Claremont/Pomona Area. If you would like a ride I can pick you up on the way or we can meet at a central location. The boat departs at 6:00 a.m. and we should arrive at the landing in Newport Beach, CA by 5:15 a.m. for check in and parking. We estimate leaving Claremont by 4:15-4:30 a.m. depending if we need to pick anyone up on the way.

There is food, drink, and beer that can be purchased on the boat, however, I highly recommend packing a lunch/snacks/drinks – no bananas. Things not permitted on board are glass containers, coolers, alcohol, controlled substances including marijuana, weapons, explosives, or any unsafe item. Everything on the boat must be paid in cash. There is also a gratuity fee for fish cleaning if you would like to keep your fish and have them clean/fillet. Usually 1-5$/fish depending on size/species or you can take it home whole with no charge. It is etiquette to tip the crew at your discretion, recommended 20% of trip cost.

Attire
Prepare to be outdoors, possibly wet, and under the sun. Recommend to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, light jacket, or sweater. Maybe thick jacket because of wind chill or light rain and unpredictable weather conditions. Hiking shoes are great as the boat may be slippery.

Shoes: UNSAFE FOOT WEAR, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, HIGH HEELS, LEATHER SOLES, NOVELTY SKATE SHOES, PLATFORM SHOES, WEDGE STYLE SHOES, AND BARE FEET ARE NOT SAFE AND ARE PROHIBITED ON BOARD ANY VESSEL per their website.

Extra dramamine for motion sickness will be provided.

Please bring a CA government-issued ID.
We will be collecting payment during lunch Monday 2/24/20 12-1 pm IN THE KGI CAFE!!!
