Funding Clinical Studies
As explained in earlier SURE drug discovery lectures, therapeutic products are approved by the FDA for use in patients after completion of multiple years of human clinical trials, involving hundreds (or thousands) of patients, and millions (or hundreds of millions) of dollars. This talk discusses the financial implications of these trials for new and existing pharmaceutical firms.
Joel West, PhD, Professor, Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Joel West is Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences at KGI. Among other responsibilities, he teaches patent strategy, runs the annual Business Plan Competition, and is faculty advisor to the Consulting Club and Breaking Bread. He has been cofounder and CEO of two high-tech companies: Palomar Software (1987-2004) and Shield Pharma (2014-present).
