#6 – Sheldon Schuster (Part 1)

In today’s episode, we are sharing part one of a series of interviews with KGI President Sheldon Schuster.

President Schuster became the second president of KGI in 2003, succeeding founding president Henry Riggs. President Schuster was born in San Mateo, California, and earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Davis, followed by a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Arizona.

After completing his doctorate, President Schuster joined the Institute for Enzyme Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, then became an assistant professor of chemistry and life sciences at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. President Schuster moved to the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he became a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, interim assistant vice president for research and graduate education, and director of the Biotechnology Program before relocating to Southern California to assume the presidency of KGI.

Through his 15 years here, President Schuster has led the addition of many innovative programs while KGI’s alumni base expands its impact on the applied life sciences and healthcare industries. In this conversation, President Schuster talks about the plans for a KGI school that will change the future of medical training.
