Hannah Kim PharmD Scholars Winner 700x550

Incoming PharmD Student Hannah Kim Receives Full-Ride Scholarship at PharmD Scholars Night

In late January, Keck Graduate Institute (KGI)’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program hosted PharmD Scholars Night, an invitation-only event where 12 top applicants from the fall 2023 application pool were invited to campus to compete for a full-ride scholarship.

Hannah Kim, a student at UC Berkeley majoring in molecular biology, earned the full-ride scholarship.

“Hannah has a wonderful passion for pharmacy, and her desire to serve others and her community makes her a fantastic representative for KGI’s inaugural PharmD Scholars Night,” said KGI Director of Admissions Nathan Araujo.

Kim grew up in Santa Clara County and currently attends UC Berkeley, where she’ll graduate this spring, 2023. She is the Vice President of UC Berkeley’s Pre-Pharmacy Information Learning and Leadership Society, where she has served since 2022.

She served as the Northern California Pre-Pharmacy Symposium Chair in 2022 and was a student leader in the Acts2Fellowship and Alliance for Global Health and Science California. She is a pharm tech at CVS and served as a pharmacy clerk before this.

The 12 students who participated in PharmD Scholars Night hailed from various backgrounds, some working as pharmacy techs while others from community colleges.

During the event, each student had three MMI interviews with selected PharmD faculty who scored their interviews based on a fair scoring rubric. The students were also split into three teams of four, where they participated in a scavenger hunt and jeopardy game.

At the end of the afternoon’s events, all members were met by KGI staff, current students, and faculty for dinner. Students could continue to make connections and get their questions answered before the big announcement.

KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Interim Dean Dr. Srikanth Kolluru and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Sofia Toro were on hand to announce the winner and hand out the life-sized check with the winner’s name on it. In addition to Kim earning a full-ride scholarship, all 11 students received increased scholarships.

“We look forward to having Hannah and the other 11 scholars here at KGI this fall!” Araujo concluded.
