KGI Announces the Passing of Dean Minh Dang

With a heavy heart, Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) President Dr. Sheldon Schuster announced the passing of Assistant Dean for Experiential Education and Professor of Practice for Clinical Sciences, Minh Dang, on September 6, 2022.

Dang served KGI well as the inaugural Assistant Dean for Experiential Education. She was hired by the Founding Dean, Dr. Kathy Webster, in February 2013 to set up the basic infrastructure of the department.

“Many of us worked closely with Minh, especially our faculty and staff within the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences,” Schuster said. “She will be deeply missed.”

Dang was proud to be a part of the inaugural journey of KGI Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. She took pride in training the next generation of PharmDs to deliver specialized medical care in various professional settings and served as a faculty mentor to numerous classes of students.

Dang had strong ties to community pharmacy and owned a community pharmacy while employed at KGI. This gave her excellent insight into the operations and challenges of running a healthcare business in today’s environment.

She was close to the representatives of large retail pharmacies and was always able to find support from our colleagues to support many of KGI’s early student celebrations.

In the past few years, Dang, a Professor of Practice, helped coordinate the Pre-IPPE and Pre-APPE courses that prepare pharmacy students for their Experiential Education activities.

Dang was active in several professional societies, including APhA, ASHP, CPhA, CSHP, AACP, and PLS. She served on the CSHP-Geriatric Care Council, ASHP Alternate Delegate, CPHA Nominating and Poster Review Committee, FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation), Phi Lambda Sigma, and Lambda Kappa Sigma. She also sat on numerous school committees and was a faculty advisor to the students in CPhA and VAPSA.

“We will keep Dean Dang’s family in our thoughts during this difficult time,” Schuster said. “Her amazing contributions to KGI, its students, and this community will never be forgotten.”

Services for Dean Dang will be held at Christ Cathedral, 13280 Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove, CA 92840, on September 15 at 10 a.m. A funeral service will follow at Melrose Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary, 2303 S. Manchester Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92802; all are welcome to attend.

In place of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to Wage Hope in memory of Minh. All funds raised support Wage Hope’s critical programs and help advance progress and improve treatment options.
