Professor Tyrrell, who joined KGI in September 2017, is an established pharmaceutical executive with a passion for driving marketing strategy and business development within specialty medicines. He joined the KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) in Boston, where he served as the associate dean and chair of the Pharmaceutical Business and Administrative Sciences Department within the School of Pharmacy, and was an associate professor from 2011-2017.
Prior to MCPHS, he spent 34 years in the biopharmaceutical industry where he worked his way up from sales representative to senior vice president. His record of success is exemplified through his international commercial expertise in oncology, and domestically in oncology, CNS, infectious disease, and metabolism (diabetes and obesity).
In prior assignments, he developed extensive expertise in commercializing new and existing brands within multiple therapeutic areas. Some of the companies he worked with include Eli Lilly, J&J, and AstraZeneca.
Professor Tyrrell has long been recognized for significant leadership in commercial endeavors. In this arena, he consistently forged highly productive cross-functional teams, leveraging cultural flexibility, inter-department expertise, and the effective use of resources to accomplish aggressive strategic goals.
Professor Tyrrell is a Registered Pharmacist. He earned a BS in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and a MBA in Marketing Management from Bryant College in Smithfield, RI.
